Call for more flexible working adds to mobility momentum
The RAC Foundation is advising business people to counter congestion and time wasting sitting in
traffic jams, by adopting more flexible working practices.
The organisation also asks businesses to consider the financial and environmental consequences
of time wasted stuck on the road. A survey revealed that 20% of company car drivers spend more than 11 days
per year sitting in traffic. It also found that 40% would welcome greater encouragement of home
working, and 25% more flexible hours.

IT makes small firms more efficient
Many small business owners in the UK are still missing out on the full potential of IT, according to a
YouGov survey commissioned by the British Chamber of Commerce and Microsoft.
Owner-managers are devoting too much of their valuable time having to deal with IT problems themselves. Mainly
caused by poor purchasing decisions.
One third admit to purchasing IT kit based solely on advice from friends and colleagues, instead of consulting experts.
One big mistake made by 40% of small business owners is to 'binge buy' equipment without proper planning
or an assessment of whether the goods will be able to sustain the company's growth.

Update to Companies Act
Under new legislation, all UK companies must now provide additional company registration, location and
VAT details on websites and in emails, order forms and electronic documents.
Every company should list its company registration number, place of registration, registered office address
and VAT details on its website. This information does not need to appear on every page but could, for example, be on
'About us'.
The company registration information should also appear on every email sent from a company.
Any necessary changes to websites and e-mails need to be made as soon as possible. If not, your company risks a fine.
